Therapy in Pittsburgh
Jonah Taylor, LCSW | AASECT Certified Sex Therapist
Conveniently located in the East End (Shadyside/East Liberty):
134 S Highland Ave, 3rd Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
Most people who come to therapy in Pittsburgh are not in crisis. They are people who have been paying attention — to a relationship that does not feel right, to patterns they cannot seem to break, to a disconnect between what they want and what they keep doing. They are looking for a place where that kind of noticing is taken seriously.
My office is in East Liberty, and I work with individuals and couples from across the city — Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland, Point Breeze, the East End, and beyond. What I offer is not a program or a set of exercises. It is a direct, psychologically honest conversation about what is actually going on.
What I Specialize In
I specialize in couples therapy and individual therapy, with a particular focus on sexual and relational concerns. As an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, I bring training in the areas most therapists are not equipped to address — desire discrepancy, intimacy issues, performance anxiety, compulsive sexual behavior, and the ways shame and intimacy become entangled. I also work with men navigating masculinity, vulnerability, and relationships, and individuals dealing with borderline and narcissistic personality patterns.
For couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which focuses on the attachment dynamics beneath conflict. This is not communication coaching. It is work that gets at the emotional logic of why you and your partner keep getting stuck in the same cycles.
What Brings People In
Some come because their relationship is in trouble and they have tried everything they can think of on their own. Some come because something about their sexual life feels off — too much, too little, too confusing — and they need someone who will not flinch at the details. Some come because anxiety or depression has worn them down, and they want more than symptom management.
Whatever the reason, the work begins the same way: I listen carefully, I ask questions that go somewhere, and I help you see what has been hard to see on your own.
How I Work
Specialized, not general. This is not a practice that treats everything. I focus on what I am genuinely expert in: couple dynamics, sexual difficulty, male psychology, and the intersection of all three. If your concern falls in that territory, you will be working with someone who has seen it before and knows how to help.
Psychologically serious. Expect depth, not just coping strategies. I draw from psychodynamic therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches — not to be eclectic, but because real problems require more than one lens. I am interested in the why: the patterns, defenses, and relational histories that shape how you show up in your life and relationships.
Private pay for a reason. No insurance company dictating the pace or scope of your treatment. Full confidentiality. The flexibility to do the work properly.
In-person and online. I see clients at my office in Pittsburgh’s East End and via secure telehealth across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New Mexico, and Rhode Island. Evening and Sunday appointments are available.
If any of this resonates, I am happy to talk.
